Beginners Guide to Kratom

The Prodigious Plant

Over the last 7 or so years,  I've been able to rely on kratom to help treat chronic back & knee pain, stay motivated, accomplish personal goals and more. This plant is the real deal, yet surprisingly still a bit unknown. For some, it's something enjoyable to relax or socialize with and for others, it can be a big change to their life.

Before we get into this, if you are simply just looking for the best Kratom - check out HappyHippoHerbals or CoastlineKratom. I will explain why I recommend them in my guide and how kratom has made a big positive impact in my life.

What Is Kratom?

In short, kratom is a safe, inexpensive and legal plant you can take to treat anxiety, pain, create sense of well-being, improve motivation, and more. There’s a lot I can tell you about it, but instead of covering it extensively like in my original guide, this will be more of the basics as well as some new things. If you need help finding the right strain, check out Part 2.

Kratom (also known as Mitragyna Speciosa) is a deciduous plant native to Southeast Asia (mostly Indonesia).  It hits mainly on the delta receptors in the brain and although it behaves similar to a μ-opioid receptor, it's not an opiate. This means although it has much milder effects than any opioid, it is also much safer.

I’m not going to hide the fact that you can become addicted to kratom. It’s certainly possible with heavy daily usage.  The good thing is it can be easily avoided and there's things like rotating (I’ll get to a minute) and other accessible options like washouts (article coming soon).

Which Strains Are Fast, Moderate & Slow

The main way is the country or province the strain is from. Bali and Borneo are slow strains, Thai strains or ones called 'Maeng Da' are fast, and Indonesian strains are generally moderate.

Another indication is the color of the vein of the leaf of that strain (usually shows in the name). The colors can be Red (Slow), Green (Moderate), or White (Fast). So a strain like ‘Green Kalimantan’ is a moderate strain from Kalimantan (Indonesia). This indicator isn't always correct, but in most cases it is. If you’re confused, at the end I show exactly which strains are what speed.

How To Take Kratom

- Toss & Wash- Toss it in, take a big sip of water, mix it around then down the hatch. Tricky but efficient once you get used to it

- Mix with Water or Juice- Stir well since it doesn’t dissolve easily

- Make Tea Out of it- This is the most time consuming way but a lot of people stand by it. Just boil the powder in a pot for several minutes then strain the water to remove it. Coffee filters can work too.

- Mix it with Protein Powder- Useful option to help mask the taste.

Although kratom is legal to buy, possess and sell- it can’t legally be sold for human consumption since it’s not approved by the FDA and has to be sold as an incense.  Therefore, when talking about ingesting kratom online, people will sometimes say ‘burning kratom’ instead of ‘drinking’ or ‘ingesting' it.
