Modafinil Review

The Ultimate Nootropic

Modafinil is really the ultimate nootropic (beside maybe Kratom, if you consider it one). If you don't know what a nootropic is, it's a substance which enhances cognitive function, memory, creativity, and facilitates learning. After trying many different types, I was left rather disappointed, until I came across modafinil.

Modafinil is a schedule IV controlled substance, which is how I got it through prescription. It's not nearly as controlled as adderall though, as it seems like many people can order it online.

This article is certainly not at all medical advice, and is just my experience using modafinil. This information is not a substitute for the advice of a qualified and licensed physician.

Modafinil (or brand names provigil and modalert) is a wakefulness promoting agent, basically a stimulant, which is most often used for the treatment of narcolepsy.  It creates a sharp, yet calm focused mood.  You can think clearly with energy, without being overstimulated like jitters from caffeine.

Potential

Modafinil has become increasingly popular in Britain for studying, as it seems like the safer alternative to regular ADD medication. The most recent 24 studies all basically concluded that modafinil improves your attention, decision making, and problem solving when taken by normal healthy people.

Effects

When I take it in the morning, I start to feel motivated and productive. Whatever I'm doing at the moment, I find it much more interesting, even if I'm reading the dictionary. That's why it's a good idea to start whatever you need to work before you take it, otherwise you'll find that TV show or video game too fun to quit.

Within 1 - 3 hours (depends on your tolerance to it) that effect wears off a bit and instead you're just alert and focused. If you don't have much self-discipline or normally motivated, this isn't going to automatically help you. The main effect is it's ability to help you avoid the 'mental wall'. If you're ever had a long day studying, where you feel like you've hit your maximum amount of information intake? With modafinil, you can keep going. You don't feel mentally exhausted as you're ask focused as you were when you started.

What stands out with modafinil to me is there's no crash, or no hangover the following day. The only thing to be aware of, is you can easily stay up much too late if you take it past noon. Your mind if crisp and processes fast, so you don't want that feeling when you go to bed. Take it in the morning, wait an hour before eating, and you should be set for the day.

That's It!

Modafinil isn't going to give you straight A's or make you the hardest worker, but it can definitely help. It also does not significantly affect neurotransmitters like adderall, so it has a much lower dependency potential. That being said, anything good can be habit-forming, and just because it works doesn't mean you should abuse it.

If you're looking for something that's not scheduled while still being safe and fairly cheap, kratom is always an option- I use it all the time for productivity and motivation.  It works differently than modafinil, but it puts you in a great mood which makes anything a whole lot easier. There's also the increasingly popular Adrafinil which your body actually converts to modafinil. Although it may not be quite as good as regular modafinil, it's probably the closest option for something that's not scheduled and easily available online.

Modafinil is fairly new stuff, but it's looking really promising. I'm sure it's going to get a lot more popular soon. If you guys have any medical questions, obviously talk to your doctor, but anything else feel free to email me at gllrooster@gmail.com
